Before BYU

Won letters in football, basketball and baseball at Layton High...was all-region, all-state in football, and all-region in basketball...coached by Gary Hansen (Weber State)...the team was region and state champions.

1980 | Freshman Year

Backup defensive end on varsity.

1981 | Sophomore Year

Saw a lot of action as a starter and was voted as the outstanding lineman by the coaches...had six sacks and scored 43 defensive points against New Mexico...the leading returning defensive scorer, he led the team with 13 sacks and finished second overall to Kyle Whittingham.

1982 | Junior Year

Led the team in hurries (21) and sacks (8)...led BYU with 13 tackles at Georgia and 15 tackles vs. Hawai'i...was defensive lineman of the game vs. UNLV and Hawai'i...had seven unassisted tackles and the lone Cougar sack against Ohio State in the Holiday Bowl...a pre-season All-America checklist selection by The Sporting News magazine.
