HILO, Hawaii -- Scott Miller overcame the windy conditions on the first two days, and tough putting surfaces in the final round, to lead the Cougars to a seventh place team finish at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate.
Miller finished out strong performances from the first two days of the tournament and claimed a share of third place for his best of the 2000-2001 season. Bruce Brockbank commented on Miller's solid play.
"He [Miller] was the most consistent golfer in the tournament," Brockbank said. "He was the big strong point in this tournament, he showed a lot of focus on the course."
Weather had played a factor during the first two rounds with high gusts of wind making shots difficult. The wind calmed down for the final round, but the dry conditions assisted in making the putting greens a challenge to get a read.
"The wind died down," Brockbank said. "The course was a little more reasonable today, but we missed some short putts on the tough greens."
The University of Texas won the tournament by a commanding 6 strokes. Meanwhile, the nation's top-ranked team, Georgia Tech struggled under the conditions to finish in a tie for eighth place.
Individually, Sprague Kolp of Nevada and Matt Jones of Arizona State finished 3 and 2 shots ahead of Miller respectively to claim first and second for the tournament.
