No. 16 BYU Women's Soccer loses 3-2 to No. 18 Virginia in Overtime

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- In their first meeting ever on Thursday, No. 16 BYU lost in overtime to No. 18 Virginia despite two goals from freshman Kim Devine. The Cougars fell to 6-3-1 while the Cavaliers improved to 6-2-1.

The Cavaliers struck first in the 17th minute when leading scorer Lori Lindsey scored. Kim Devine scored on an unassisted putback 33 minutes into the half to tie the game 1-1 going into halftime.

The second half opened up with more offense displayed by both teams. Kim Devine scored her second goal of the night, with assists from Annie Hoecherl and Jeni Williardson Viernes, to take a 2-1 lead which held until the final 10 minutes of play. Lindsay Gusick scored to send the game into overtime. Lori Lindsey scored her second goal of the night six minutes into overtime to seal the victory for Virginia.

"We played pretty well and both teams fought hard, but we couldn't keep the win," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "It's good for our young team to play a tough schedule against good teams to help us see our weaknesses and to learn and improve as the season continues."

BYU will conclude it's east coast road trip on Saturday at Wake Forest with a 1:00 p.m. EST scheduled kickoff.
