PROVO, Utah (Aug. 18, 2005) Three different players scored in three 25-minute periods during the annual Blue White women's soccer scrimmage, Thursday at South Stadium.
In the intrasquad scrimmage, the Blue team scored all three goals led by freshman Katie Larkin who put the ball in the net after a throw in from Brooke Thulin in the first period of action. Eight minutes later, sophomore Bobbi Tillotson put the Blue team on top 2-0.
The second period saw both squads with multiple scoring opportunities but neither could capitalize on the numerous chances. In the final 25-minute period, sophomore Natalie Nate gave the Blue team a 3-0 advantage with a goal that hit the crossbar and bounced inside the net.
All three of the Cougars' goalkeepers, Ashley Smith, Natalie Evans and Erika Woodbury played switching during each period. The final stats included a total of 13 shots, eight of those made by the Blue team. Each team had one corner kick.
"This is a good opportunity for us to evaluate the team in a realistic game situation," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "I was impressed with how our midfielders played. We also saw some good things from several of our new freshmen players. This is a good indicator of some of the things that we still need to work on before the season begins."
Two exhibition games are on tap for BYU with a game against Utah Valley State on Saturday, Aug. 20. Then the Cougars host Dixie State in another exhibition game on Tues., Aug. 23 before opening up the regular season in Hawaii against George Mason and the University of Hawaii on Aug. 27 and 29.
