PROVO -- In one of its final practices of Fall Camp before Arizona game preparation begins, BYU continues to work on consistent execution.

"Our players have a workman-like attitude," head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "They are remaining focused on the week ahead."

Mendenhall said BYU will scrimmage tomorrow for the last time in Fall Camp. He noted that the depth chart could always change based on performance.

"You're expected to give an honest day's work," Mendenhall said of his depth chart philosophy. "If you don't, you will be replaced with someone who is doing what is asked of them."

The Cougars' team drills focused on several situational drills. BYU worked on Blue Zone drills, two-minute drills and sequences when the offense is inside its own 20-yard line.

The offense came up with big plays, scoring in both Blue Zone drills and the two-minute drills.

In Blue Zone drills, Daniel Coats hauled in a six-yard touchdown reception capping a five-play Blue Zone drive. On the following possession, the second-team offense was held out of he end zone after gaining six yards.

The first possession of two-minute drills ended in a big play when John Beck hit a Jonny Harline in stride who took it the distance for a 70-yard touchdown pass play. In the following four two-minute drives the defense prevailed, keeping the offense from scoring any points.

Russell Tialavea recorded a non-contact sack on Jason Beck on a fourth-down play to end the second drive. The first-team offense had success moving the ball on the third possession, driving the ball to the defense's 13-yard line. The defense kept the offense in bounds on a second down play, which kept the clock running. Time elapsed as the offense couldn't get lined up to spike the ball before time ran out.

Kelly Poppinga intercepted a pass to kill one drive. On the final drive of practice, Kyle Luekenga, Gary Lovly and Brett Denney all recorded sacks on the third-team offense to allow time to elapse.

Fall Camp concludes Thursday as Friday's practice will be the start of Arizona game preparation.
