RICHMOND -- The BYU Cougars finished strong at the PING/Golfweek Preview Wednesday thanks in part to a record-breaking performance by one of their best.

Daniel Summerhays, a junior from Farmington, Utah, shot a 60 on the par-70 course at the Golden Horseshoe Country Club. The 10-under-par round broke course records on the fairways where the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Tournament will be played.

The round also tied an NCAA record. Daniel Summerhays joins golfers Brock Mackenzie of Washington (-12), Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech (-12) and Paul Casey of Arizona State (-10) as student-athletes who have shot a round of 60.

"Daniel was great," said head coach Bruce Brockbank. "He has really worked hard to earn this. He really deserved it."

Summerhays ended up finishing the PING/Golfweek Preview in seventh place. He led the No. 12 Cougars to a 12th-place finish where they were tied with Washington.

"As a team, we got to see where we can improve," said assistant coach Todd Miller. "We saw the course and what we need to work on before the National Championships. When we go to the same course for the NCAA we will be in contention to win."

Florida won the tournament with a team score of 834, six-under-par.
