COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU freshman Christie Zinanti has been named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week. The honor is the first of Zinanti's career.
"She's been throwing really well," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "She's been really impressive the last three weeks."
The 5-foot-10 hurler, from Pueblo, Colo., did her part in BYU's first-ever combined no-hitter against UVSC last week. She pitched one inning, retiring the side in order and recording one strikeout. Zinanti then secured the shutout victory against Utah, allowing three hits and putting away 19 of the 25 batters she faced. She denied the Utes a single hit after the third inning in that game.
"It just shows that I've been working hard," Zinanti said, "and I know the defense behind me is there to back me up. I've got a tough team behind me, and I know they'll make the routine plays."
