PROVO -- BYU junior Anastasia Surkova was honored by ESPN The Magazine and CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors Association, while senior James Ludlow received honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), while
Ludlow garnered the Mountain Region Farnsworth/ITA Senior Player of the Year Award for his efforts during the 2007 season. The award is presented to the individual who has contributed the most to his team in the following areas: leadership, sportsmanship, tennis performance and tennis improvement during his collegiate career.
Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, Ludlow posted a record of 14-12 in singles play and a 12-12 record playing at the number one doubles position with teammate Dominik Kaufhold. The Cougars recorded a runner-up finish at the 2007 MWC Championship. He was ranked 77th in the national singles rankings.
Surkova was named to the ESPN The Magazine, CoSIDA Academic All-America District VIII Second Team.
The junior from Moscow, Russia, compiled an impressive 22-5 singles record with a 14-3 finish at the number one singles spot and an 8-2 record at number two singles. In doubles play, she and teammate Jennifer Miccoli finished with a 17-6 record at the number one doubles position. They were ranked 48th nationally in doubles.
She was also named MWC Co-Player of the Year. The Cougars finished the 2007 campaign with a 22-7 overall record, clinched their third MWC Championship Title in four years, and made their 18th trip to the NCAA Tournament.
