NORMAN -- BYU's Jake Ellison, Daniel Summerhays, Clay Ogden, Nick Becker and Robbie Fillmore were all named to the GCAA Division I PING All-Region Team this week, while BYU men's golf head coach Bruce Brockbank was named the SouthWest Region Coach of the Year.
This is Brockbank's fourth region coach of the year honor. In May he also earned his fourth Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year honor as he coached the Cougars to their second MWC Championship victory.
Brockbank just completed his 14th season as the head coach at BYU and has three top 10 NCAA finishes and has coached 16 All-Americans.
The All-Region nomination is the second for All-Americans Ellison and Summerhays, as well as for Ogden. It is the first for 2005 MWC Individual Champion Becker, and true Freshman Robbie Fillmore.
Aside from Tulsa and Oklahoma State from the Central region, BYU is the only other team that had all five starters selected into the All-Region Team. The PING All-Region teams consist of the top 15 individuals in their region using the Individual Ranking System. Additionally, any player ranked nationally in the top 75 are added to their All-Region team. Any member of the All-Region teams is automatically eligible for the PING All-American Honors. The All-American First, Second and Honorable Mention teams will be announced following the 2007 NCAA Division I Championships on Saturday June 2, 2007.
