TUCSON -- After two rounds at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, BYU sits tied for 11th place and senior Juli Erekson leads the Cougars tied for 28th place at 10-over-par.
"We're getting better each day," said BYU head coach Sue Nyhus. "We still have room to improve and we're going to keep working at it."
Despite strong winds, several Cougars improved their scores in the second round, including Erekson who shot two birdies on the back nine. Senior Ashley Childers fired a 3-over-par 74, finishing the second round tied for 32nd place, while freshman Sara Romero shot an eagle at hole 18.
The three-day tournament is being held at the par-71 Arizona National Golf Course, with tournament tees set at 6,238 yards. There are 16 teams participating in the tournament, and Oklahoma State currently leads at 14-over-par.
As BYU concludes the Wildcat Invitational, Nyhus looks forward to the team playing well and improving their skills for future tournaments.
"I hope we continue to progress and manage our game," she said. "That way, when we get to the conference championship we will peak at the right time."
The final round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational will be played Wednesday with tee times scheduled from 8 to 9:40 a.m. MST.
