TALLAHASSEE -- The spring soccer season continued in Florida Friday for the Mountain West Conference champion BYU women's soccer team as the Cougars bested Florida State Seminoles' home field, 1-0.

All-American and U.S. U-23 team-member Katie Larkin scored the lone goal of the match on a through ball from freshman Becca Riddle. BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said the goal played out beautifully, but also credited her defense for its tremendous performance.

"Florida State is an outstanding team," Rockwood said. "There was some time that they had control of the game, but we battled through it. It was a back and forth game, but we played really well."

Florida State finished No. 2 in the country in the 2007 fall season and played in the National Championship match. The Seminoles have also reached the Final Four in each of the past three seasons.

The team was scheduled to play Central Florida Saturday at 4 p.m., but the game time has been moved to 12 p.m. due to storm and lightning warnings. Rockwood said she had hoped her team could rest in that extra time between matches, but is still confident that the Cougars will be up to the challenges that Central Florida will bring to the pitch Saturday.
