PROVO -- This week the men's basketball team conducts its final week of camp this summer. During the month of June, BYU basketball coaches and Cougar players have worked with more than 2,500 campers who have attended a BYU basketball camp.

"These camps give kids a great opportunity to play at a highly competitive level against other players from throughout the intermountain region," said BYU assistant coach John Wardenburg, who organizes and directs the camps each year for the BYU coaching staff. "The campers gain valuable skills and experience. It also gives us as a coaching staff the chance to see players first-hand and evaluate their play."

This year, youth from 38 states and Australia, Canada, China, Japan and the United Kingdom have experienced a BYU camp.

"Many of these kids are going to continue to play basketball in the future and what they experience at camp will be a huge help for them," said BYU basketball player and camp worker Gavin MacGregor. "Even for those who aren't going to play basketball when they get older, the experience of being on a team and working hard to accomplish something is going to go a long way for them."
