MANHATTAN -- No. 10 Kansas State used four home runs Tuesday to secure an 11-3 baseball victory over BYU.
Just like the day before, BYU got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Sean McNaughton singled. He advanced to second on an error and to third on a passed ball, enabling him to score on Kent Walton’s groundout to the pitcher. Steve Parker then hit a solo homer to center to put BYU up 2-0.
KSU loaded the bases with one out in its first, but a 4-6-3 double play ended that inning. However, the Wildcats came back to tie the score two-all in the second.
Nick Martini and Jordan Cruz hit solo homers in the third and fourth innings, respectively, to put the Wildcats up 4-2. Martini homered again in the fourth with a two-run shot just after Cougar starter Jeremy Toole was replaced by Justin Shutt, putting KSU up 8-2.
Daniel Dellasega increased the Wildcats’ lead to 10-2 with a two-run homer in the fifth off BYU reliever Jared Miller.
The Cougars got their final run in the eighth when Jonathan Cluff singled, advanced on a J.T. Musso double and scored on a groundout to short by Dane Nielsen, making the score 10-3.
KSU improves to 37-11-1, while BYU is now 24-21 as the Cougars return to league play in Provo with a three-game series against UNLV starting on Thursday.
