PROVO, Utah — No. 13 Southern Utah hosts BYU gymnastics in the first matchup between the two teams this season Friday night at the Centrum Arena.
“We’re really excited to go to Southern Utah,” BYU head coach Guard Young said. “They’re having a great season so far. Whenever we meet an opponent that is as good as Southern Utah, it raises our level of gymnastics higher too.”
The Cougars earned a season-high overall score of 195.450 in a second-place finish against Texas Woman's University (195.625) and Centenary College (191.300). BYU also tied or set new season highs on vault (48.875), bars (49.225) and floor (49.150). Brittni Hawes earned Mountain Rim Gymnastics Bars Specialist of the Week honors after posting a career-high 9.950 on uneven bars. Mackenzie Douglas tied her career high of 9.900 on floor.
The Thunderbirds broke their school record for the second time in one week, earning a 196.725 victory over Utah State’s 195.725. Freshman Autumn Jorgensen tied the school record on floor with a 9.950.
