Rolling Hills Estate, California – After a first-round bye, senior Kate Cusick and freshman Anastasia Abramyan in doubles play defeated Washington’s Kenadi Hance and Lana Slavica 8-4. The two will face off against conference foes Laura Gulbe and Dzina Milovanoic of Pepperdine Friday afternoon in the Quarterfinals.
Junior Taylah Beckman had a great start to the Jack Kramer Invitational with a commanding victory over Fresno State’s Abbey Watanabe 6-1, 6-0. Beckman will play Terri Fleming of UCLA in the round of 32 early Friday morning.
Sophomore Katie Fitt and freshman Madeline Almeida won a close match against Georgetown’s Daphne De Chatellus and Drew Spinosa 8-7 in the first round of doubles play. Unfortunately, Fitt and Almeida fell to Natalie Dasilveira and Amit Lev-Air of UC Santa Barbara in the Round of 16, 8-0. The remaining doubles team, Hermehr Kaur and Beckman fell to Tia Elpusan and Sara Khattab of UC Riverside 8-1.
In singles play, Cusick had a hard-fought match against Georgetown’s Spinosa, but came up short 6-4, 6-3. Abramyan also kept her match close versus Amit Lev-Ari of UC Santa Barbara until falling 6-3, 7-5. Kaur hung tight with UCLA’s Kristin Wiley losing the first set 5-7 and taking the second set 6-3. However, Wiley defeated Kaur in the third set 10-6. Conference opponent Camila Tumosa of LMU defeated Fitt in the first round 6-3, 6-3 and Almeida lost to Oregon’s Daniela Nasser 6-3, 6-4.
The second day of tournament play will begin Friday morning.
