BYU at No. 6 Wisconsin Postgame Notes


The following notes are from BYU's 24-21 win over No. 6 Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium.

Road Top-10 Win
BYU beat No. 6 Wisconsin for its first win over a top-10 team in a true road game since beating No. 3 Pitt 20-14 in 1984. It was the first win over a top-10 team since beating No. 3 Oklahoma 14-13 in 2009. The Cougars also beat No. 4 Air Force in 1985 and No. 1 Miami in 1990.

Series notes
BYU evened the series with Wisconsin at 2-2. The Cougars also took a 2-1 edge in Madison in the series. Jim McMahon led BYU to a 28-3 win in 1980.  

Power 5 wins
BYU has 25 wins over Power 5 teams since 2003, the most of any non-Power 5 team in that timespan. With the victory, the Cougars broke a tie with Navy (24).

Streak snapped
The Cougars also snapped Wisconsin’s 41-game non-conference home winning streak. It was the fifth-longest in the modern era (since 1946).

The last time…
Aleva Hifo, a wide receiver threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Moroni Laulu-Pututau in the first half. It was the first time a non-quarterback threw a touchdown pass at BYU since Remington Peck, a tight end, threw a one to Terenn Houk against Fresno State in 2015.

Hifo did a little bit of everything in the game He had five carries for 45 yards, three receptions for 32 yards and threw a 31-yard touchdown pass.

Squally Canada
Canada finished the game with 11 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He had runs of 46 and 44 yards to lead to scoring drives for the Cougars. It was the second multi-touchdown game of the season for him and third of his career.

Sione Takitaki
The senior captain led the defense with a career-high 13 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack.

Zayne Anderson
Anderson picked off Alex Hornibrook in the second half to set up a BYU touchdown. It was the first of the year for Anderson and the third of his career. He finished the game with 11 tackles, the interception and another pass breakup.
