LOGAN, Utah – No. 4/19 BYU track and field had multiple athletes earn personal records at the Aggie Invitational and UCSD Triton Invitational on Saturday.

“We had some phenomenal performances across the board today,” BYU associate head coach Mark Robison said. “Andrea came close to breaking the school record in the high jump, Isabel went a foot higher than she’s ever gone in the pole vault and a lot of athletes performed really well.”

Aggie Invitational

Andrea Stapleton-Johnson matched her outdoor personal-best 1.85m/6-0.75 on her way to a first-place finish at the Aggie Invitational in Logan, Utah. The All-American nearly broke the school record in the high jump after attempting 1.89m for her final height.

Isabel Neal won the women’s pole vault with a career vault of 4.00m/13-1.50. Neal’s mark puts her on the bubble for qualifying for the NCAA West Prelims. On Friday, Raul Rios took first in the men’s pole vault clearing a height of 5.15m/16-10.75.

Jaslyn Gardner finished the meet with wins in both the 100m dash and long jump. The freshman clocked 11.74 in the 100m and earned a mark of 5.60m/18-4.50 in the long jump. Kayla Perry made her outdoor debut and finished fourth in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.16m/16-11.25. In the men’s triple jump, Jacob Peister earned a meet-best mark of 14.60m/47-11.00.

Derek Sorensen took second in the men’s 100m dash with a season-best time of 10.50 while teammate Andrew Stuart matched his personal-best time of 10.80 for fifth place. Stuart also ran a career-best 21.86 for a fourth-place finish in the 200m.

Lindsey Shirley ran a 14.12 for the second-best time at the meet in the 100m hurdles while also tying her personal record.

Colten Yardley ran a 48.33 to take first place in the men’s 400m while Abram Schaap finished in second with a time of 48.98. Yardley also placed third in the 200m with a time of 21.80. Schaap, Yardley, Trevor Leavitt and Dantly Wilcox wrapped up the meet for the Cougars winning the men’s 4x400m relay in 3:17.62.

UCSD Triton Invitational

Jefferson Jarvis had a toss of 18.17m/59-7.50 for a season-best performance in the men’s shot put invitational at the UCSD Triton Invitational in San Diego, California. Jarvis also won the shot put open with a mark of 17.62m/57-9.75. The senior's performance solidified his position to qualify for regionals.

Jacob Foutz continued his strong senior campaign putting himself in potential regional-qualifying position for two events. In the men’s discus open, Foutz threw a career-best 54.43m/178-7 that puts him position to potentially qualify for regionals in both the discus and hammer. Foutz also took fourth in the hammer invitational with a mark of 62.89m/206-4, the third meet in a row he has thrown over 60 meters.

In the women’s javelin, Payge Cuthbertson led the Cougars with a mark of 44.76m/146-10 for fourth place. Sydnie Martindale and Elyse Cuthbertson finished 5-6 with throws of 44.37m/145-7 and 42.82m/140-6.

The Cougars will compete at four different meets next weekend in California. BYU track and field will compete at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 18), Bryan Clay Invitational (April 18-19), Mt. SAC Relays (April 18-20) and Beach Invitational (April 19-20). Meet information can be found on the team schedule page by Wednesday, April 17.
