RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — The BYU women’s golf team defeated UC Irvine 3.5-1.5 on Tuesday to claim seventh place at the match-play Lamkin Invitational.

“It was nice to get a win,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “The girls had a much better performance today. Annick (Haczkiewicz) and Allysha (Mae Mateo) dominated which was great to see. Anna (Kennedy) had a solid halve against their number one player and Naomi (Soifua) finished it off in style by making a birdie on 17 to close out the match.”

Haczkiewicz recorded the largest margin of victory of the match with a 7&5 win in her head-to-head matchup with Megan Yang of UC Irvine. Mateo followed, defeating Angela Bagasbas 6&5 in her individual matchup.

Soifua also picked up a win, tallying four birdies en route to a 2&1 victory over Maddie Riggs. Kennedy finished all-square with UC Irvine’s Cameron Lee to give the Cougars another half-point.

As a team, BYU posted nine birdies during Tuesday’s seventh-place match win against UC Irvine. Tournament-host San Diego State took first place at the two-day event after defeating San Jose State on Tuesday 3-2 in the championship match.

The Cougars are back in action next week as they compete at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate in Las Vegas, Feb. 17-18. Live stats and the leaderboard will be available on Golfstat.com.
