PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s tennis (11-5, 1-0 WCC) will travel to the Bay Area to face Saint Mary’s on Friday and Pacific on Saturday. The Cougars head into the Saint Mary’s match riding a four-match win streak.
BYU Notes (11-5, 1-0 West Coast Conference)
- BYU is 11-5. The Cougars defeated Utah State, 6-1, to move to 8-1 at home on the season. After winning five straight to open the season, BYU experienced a skid, losing five of the next seven. Since then, the Cougars have bounced back with four consecutive victories.
- BYU has wins over Utah State, Portland, Grand Canyon, Seattle, Boise State, Sacramento State, Fresno State, Dixie State (twice), Weber State (twice). The Cougars have losses to Utah, Oregon, Denver, Colorado, Cal Poly.
- Four of BYU’s five losses have come on the road. BYU is 2-4 away and 2-0 at a neutral location.
- There are three players who have already reached double-digit wins this season: Helen Jiao (11-3), Emilee Astle (11-4), Leah Heimuli (10-5). Xenia de Luna holds an 8-1 record and Madeline Wanlass is undefeated at 7-0.
- The Cougars are experiencing a wave of success in singles play and have won 72% of the contests this season. Seven different players have win streaks of three or more: Madeline Wanlass (7), Jiao (7), Anastasia Abramyan (5), Heimuli (4), Qianxin Kong (3), de Luna (3), Elizabeth Tullis (3).

- Pacific is 3-5 and is coming off a 4-3 win over NAU. The Tigers play San Diego a day before hosting BYU.
- Pacific has wins over NAU, Sacramento State and Fresno Pacific. The Tigers have losses to San Jose State, UC Davis, Fresno State, Cal and Nevada.
- The Tigers lost three of their first four home matches but have now won back-to-back in Stockton.
- The last meeting between BYU and Pacific came in April 2019. BYU pulled out a 4-3 victory. The Cougars won all three doubles matches to get things going, and Abramyan, Malykh and Almeida each won their singles matches to carry BYU to the win.
