Cougars, Haczkiewicz in second entering WCC Championship final round

HENDERSON, Nev. — BYU women’s golf shot 310 in the second round of the WCC Championship at Reflection Bay Golf Club on Friday, putting the Cougars in solo second with 18 holes to play. 

Pepperdine leads the championship after 36-holes, posting rounds of 299-295—594 to give the Waves a 19-shot lead over BYU heading into the final day. BYU carded rounds of 303-310—613 for a six shot lead over third place San Francisco, who posted rounds of 305-314—619. Santa Clara is in fourth with a 36-hole total of of 309-314—623 and Gonzaga sits in fifth at 324-315—639.

Annick Haczkiewicz matched the individual low round of the tournament on Friday to remain in second place, just three shots back of 36-hole leader Lauren Gomez of Pepperdine. Gomez shot even par in the second round for a 36-hole total of 70-72—142, while Haczkiewicz carded 75-70—145 over the first two days.

The senior from Las Vegas looks to become the first Cougar to take home the WCC individual title since Rose Huang in 2018. Pepperdine’s Kaleiya Romero (76-71—147) and Lion Higo (76-72—148) sit in the third and fourth spots respectively at 3-over and 4-over-par. Quynn Duong of Gonzaga rounds out the top-5 at 6-over-par (79-71—150).

Rounding out the Cougar scoring through 36-holes is Kerstin Fotu, who is tied for 6th at 77-75--152. Allysha Mae Mateo is 11th at 75-81--156, followed by Adeline Anderson at 76-84--160 (T16) and Lila Galeai 77-84--161 (T18). 

BYU will tee it up in the final round Saturday at 7:50 a.m PDT. The Cougars will be paired with San Francisco and Pepperdine in the final round. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
