PROVO, Utah — BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe announced today the hiring of Jasen Ah You as assistant athletic director for football academics.
Ah You previously worked as director of recruiting for BYU football for two years. Previous to that, Ah You was the director of athletic relations for BYU football.
In his new role, Ah You will work in BYU’s Built4Life Center and report to associate dean of students Trevor Wilson. Ah You’s is a new position that involves some reorganization in the Student-Athlete Life and Learning Center. Also named an assistant athletic director for academics is Nycole Larsen, who will oversee academics for other teams. Ah You, as well as Larsen, will have other full-time academic advisors and learning specialists who will report to them.
Ah You will work closely with football staff, including director of player development Mike Hall, chief of staff Jon Swift, assistant football coaches and directly with head coach Kalani Sitake.
“Jasen will be tremendous in this role,” Sitake said. “I’m happy for him. The administration has given him a great opportunity. I’m very grateful for what Jasen has done on our support staff to help us develop our recruiting, academics and other important areas over the years. He truly cares about each individual in our program. He has done a lot to help our players achieve and grow academically and in all aspects of their lives, and I’m excited he will be continuing to support our players on a daily basis in this new capacity.”
In his time as director of recruiting, Ah You oversaw the recruiting of many of the players who’ve led BYU football to its recent, high-level successes and have provided depth. Ah You also helped promote these players, and others, by overseeing and enhancing BYU’s Pro Day experience, attracting scouts to Provo from every NFL team and maintaining relationships with them. His recruiting impact will continue to be felt in the coming seasons, as Ah You helped bring in multiple high-level recruits as BYU prepares for the Big 12.
While in his previous position, Ah You completed his masters of public administration degree at BYU and graduated in April.
As assistant athletic director for football academics, Ah You will also work closely with associate athletic director for diversity & inclusion Whitney Johnson, associate athletic director for Built4Life Gary Veron and associate athletic director for compliance Chad Gwilliam.
Ah You will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive academic plan for each player on the football team. Each plan will be created based on the individual needs of the student-athlete and will ensure academic goals are created and realized. Ah You will be charged with inspiring good academic behaviors for student-athletes and will be responsible for tracking academic progress, eligibility and communicating this progress with coaches, administrators and other support staff.
A search will open for Ah You’s previous recruiting position with the football team immediately.
