BATON ROUGE, La. — BYU softball dropped the second game of its Purple & Gold Challenge doubleheader, 10-2 in five innings to No. 12 LSU at Tiger Park on Friday night.
The Cougars recorded six hits to the Tigers’ eight, but also committed two errors and left six runners on base, scoring just two runs against LSU for the second night in a row.

After a scoreless first inning and a half, the Tigers batted around the order in the bottom of the second inning while putting up eight runs in the frame. LSU tallied five hits in the inning, including a grand slam, and also benefitted from a BYU error.
The Cougars cut into the lead in the top of the third inning with Ailana Agbayani singling down the left field line, stealing second and coming home to score on Violet Zavodnik’s single to left center. Huntyr Ava then doubled down the third base line, scoring Zavodnik to make it 8-2, Tigers.
Adding to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, LSU got a bunt single, stolen base, walk and double to deep center field to go in front 10-2.
Down to its final three outs, Zavodnik got a one-out single through the right side, but a strikeout and flyout would end the run-rule loss for the Cougars.
BYU will conclude its weekend in Louisiana on Saturday, April 1 with an 11:30 a.m. CDT matchup with NC State. The game will not be streamed, but live stats will be available at through Stat Broadcast.
