No. 13 Cougars take on No. 21 Billikens in 2023 season opener

No. 13 BYU women’s soccer will take on No. 21 Saint Louis in a top-25 matchup Thursday evening on South Field.

PROVO, Utah – No. 13 BYU women’s soccer will take on No. 21 Saint Louis in a top-25 matchup to kick off the 2023 season Thursday evening on South Field.

GAME NOTES

Thursday’s matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. MDT. The game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

SEASON OPENERS. The Cougars have notched five-straight season opening wins, including a 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton last season. Under the direction of head coach Jennifer Rockwood, the Cougars hold a 21-3-4 record in season openers, 8-0-2 when opening their season on South Field. 

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. BYU played against Idaho State on Saturday, Aug. 12 in its final exhibition match. The Cougars beat the Bengals 7-0 on South Field, courtesy of braces by forwards Allie Fryer and Brecken Mozingo. Bella Folino, Erin Bailey and Kendell Petersen all tallied goals of their own to secure the win. 

THE BILLIKENS. Saint Louis began its 2023 season with two exhibition games against Lindenwood and Evansville. The Billikens ended their 2022 season ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic 10 conference with a 20-2 overall record, going undefeated in conference play (10-0). SLU concluded its 2022 campaign with a new school record for wins (20), longest winning streak (18), longest unbeaten streak (18) and shutouts (15). Under the direction of head coach Katie Shields (11th season), Saint Louis looks to win its sixth-straight Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and make a run in the NCAA Conference Tournament.

COUGARS VS. BILLIKENS. The Cougars and Billikens will meet for the first time on the pitch as SLU travels to Provo for a top-25 matchup on South Field.
