Akina wins individual championship at the 2023 International Team and Individual Championship

BYU men’s golfer Keanu Akina took home the individual title and helped propel Team Utah to the team win at the 2023 International Team and Individual Championship at Paiute Golf Resort on Saturday.

LAS VEGAS, NV – BYU men’s golfer Keanu Akina took home the individual title and helped propel Team Utah to the team win at the 2023 International Team and Individual Championship at Paiute Golf Resort on Saturday. 

The rising senior carded 17 birdies in his rounds of 67-69-70–206 to finish 10-under-par. After the third round, Akina was tied with Josh Goldstein and headed to a sudden-death playoff, which ended as Akina birdied the third playoff hole for the win. 

Team Utah consisted of Akina, Justin Shluker (Southern Utah golf alumnus), Steven Croft (University of Utah golf alumnus), and David Jennings (Utah Tech golf alumnus). The team combined for rounds of 208-215-214–637 to finish 11-under-par and beat out the northern California team by one stroke.
