White tops blue in swim and dive's final preseason showing

BYU swim and dive competed in its final preseason showing during the program’s annual Blue and White Meet at the Richards Building Pool on Friday afternoon.

PROVO, Utah – BYU swim and dive competed in its final preseason showing during the program’s annual Blue and White Meet at the Richards Building Pool on Friday afternoon.

The mixed men’s and women’s teams competed in 24 swimming events as well as select diving events with Team White overcoming Team Blue 257-241.

Emma Marusakova and Colette Masino led all BYU women with two event wins a-piece. Marusakova took the top spot in both 100 and 200 back at 58.11 and 2:06.47, respectively. Masino won the 100 fly at 58.12 only to add a 200 fly win at 2:08.49 near the meet’s close.

Marusakova also combined with Halli Williams, Brad Prolo and Jacob Ballard to give Team Blue’s “A” squad a win in the mixed 400 medley relay with a time of 3:37.08.

Lily Flint clocked 24.11 to win a closely contested 50 free that saw Williams finish second at 24.25 and Tatum Cooley third at 24.60. Flint and Cooley helped Team White close the meet with a win in the mixed 400 freestyle relay. The BYU women’s duo combined with Joshua Reed and Luigi Riva for a time of 3:18.02.

Kara Martinson, Addison Richards, Abi Furqueron, Megan Bergstrom and Mia Tandingan also won events among the BYU women.

Prolo and Reed each powered their respective relay teams to victory while recording individual event victories as well. Reed swept the 50 (21.04) and 100 (46.44) free while Prolo won the 100 breast at 57.21 and 200 fly at 1:55.17.

Tama Tuitama shone in the 200 breast and individual medley, winning each event at 2:08.75 and 1:56.88, respectively. Diego Camacho Salgado and Bryce Broadhead rounded out the day’s top-finishers among the BYU men.

The Cougars open the 2023-24 regular season on Sept. 29-30 at the Intermountain Shootout hosted by Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colorado.
