Cougs face UCF in semifinal battle

No. 7 BYU women’s soccer is set to play UCF in the semifinal game of the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Tournament Wednesday evening.

PROVO, Utah – No. 7 BYU women’s soccer is set to play UCF in the semifinal game of the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Tournament Wednesday evening.

Wednesday’s matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT. The game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

STANDOUT PLAYERS 

  • Senior Jamie Shepherd now holds the record for most games played by any BYU soccer player in program history (101)

  • Bella Folino has now played in 100 career games for No 2 overall in games played in the BYU record book

  • Sophomores Erin Bailey and Allie Fryer lead the Cougars in goals with 10 apiece

  • Senior Brecken Mozingo leads the Cougars in shots with 57

  • Senior Kendell Petersen and Mozingo lead BYU in assists with 11 apiece

THE COUGARS. BYU last competed against Oklahoma on Monday, Oct. 30 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament, blanking the Sooners 6-0. Five second half goals lifted BYU over Oklahoma behind a Bella Folino brace. Erin Bailey, Allie Fryer, Ellie Walbruch and Olivia Wade-Katoa notched the other four goals for the Cougars in the shutout victory.

THE KNIGHTS. UCF last competed against TCU in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament, overcoming a 1-0 deficit at halftime to beat the Horned Frogs 3-2. Goals by Mia Asenjo, Dayana Martin and Chloe Netzel led the Knights to victory on Monday evening.

COUGARS VS. KNIGHTS. The Cougars and the Knights competed for the first time in program history for BYU’s final game of the regular season on Monday, Oct. 23 on senior night. BYU bested UCF 3-2, with goals by Allie Fryer, Olivia Wade-Katoa and Brecken Mozingo.
