BYU takes on Texas in Big 12 Tournament Championship

No. 6 BYU women’s soccer will face Texas in the championship match of the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Tournament Saturday evening.

PROVO, Utah – No. 6 BYU women’s soccer (16-1-3, Big 12 7-0-3) will face Texas in the championship match of the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Tournament Saturday evening.

Saturday’s matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT. The game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

THE COUGARS. BYU last competed against UCF in the Big 12 Tournament Semifinals, besting the Knights 4-1. All four Cougar goals came in the first half, as Wade-Katoa scored back-to-back goals, and Mozingo and Walbruch added goals of their own. Olivia Smith-Griffitts, Mozingo, Rachel McCarthy, Zoe Jacobs and Erin Bailey all tallied assists in Wednesday’s victory. The Cougars outshot the Knights 29-14, with eight being on frame.

THE LONGHORNS. Texas last competed against Texas Tech in the other semi finals matchup Wednesday evening, besting the Red Raiders 1-0. Texas’ lone goal came from Big 12 Forward of the Year, Trinity Byars. The Longhorns outshot the Red Raiders 19-5 with five being on frame.

COUGARS VS. LONGHORNS. The Cougars and the Longhorns have competed six times previously, with the overall series tied, 3-3. The teams met as Big 12 opponents for the first time earlier this season, as BYU overcame an early deficit to beat then-No. 14 Texas 3-2 in the Cougars’ first comeback victory of the season. Walbruch, Wade-Katoa and Bailey scored BYU’s three goals in that match.
