KANSAS CITY, Mo. — United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) have selected Brecken Mozingo and Laveni Vaka as 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalists, based on voting by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. There are 15 semifinalists total for 2023.
Mozingo currently leads the Cougars in goals (14), assists (15), points (43) and shots (83). The Sandy, Utah native has contributed five goals and five assists through the first four rounds of the NCAA Tournament, helping BYU advance to its second College Cup in program history.
As one of BYU’s strongest defensive forces in the center back position, Vaka has played a team-high 2,182 minutes on the pitch this season. With several key defensive stops, the Sandy, Utah native has contributed to BYU’s nine shutouts.
Three women's finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, to formally announce this year’s winners.
