PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball head coach Mark Pope officially announced the 2023-24 non-conference schedule on Thursday.
The Cougars will play 13 non-conference games, nine of those coming in the friendly confines of the Marriott Center where the Cougars have accumulated a record of 50-10 during Pope’s tenure in Provo.

The Cougars open the 2023-24 season with four straight games at the Marriot Center beginning with their first-ever matchup against Houston Christian (formerly Houston Baptist) on Monday, November 6. Following its showdown with the Huskies, BYU will host the Aztecs of San Diego State on November 10 marking the first time the Cougars will host the reigning national runner-up in a non-conference game.
The four-game homestand continues November 15 with Southeastern Louisiana making the trip to Provo for the first time. BYU will then welcome Morgan State to the Marriott Center for the first time since a 110-69 victory for the Cougars on December 28, 1995.
The Cougars will spend Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas when they take part in the Vegas Showdown at Michelob ULTRA Arena. BYU and Arizona State will face off in the opening round on Thursday, November 23, at 9 p.m. MT on ESPN2. They will remain on the road to face Fresno State at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on December 1 for their 19th all-time meeting.
BYU will host Evansville on December 5 before heading back to the Salt Lake for a second time in a little more than a week to face off against soon-to-be Big 12 foe Utah on December 9 at Huntsman Center. It will be the 264th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Cougars having won five of the last six meetings, including a 75-64 victory in their last trip to Utah's campus.
They return to the Marriott Center on December 13 to host Denver, the Pioneers first trip to Provo since 1998. A showdown against Georgia State (December 16) is followed up with BYU’s first-ever meeting against the Knights of Bellarmine on December 22. They conclude non-conference play with the 175th all-time meeting against Wyoming on December 30.
