PROVO, Utah – No. 7 BYU women’s soccer will battle in-state foe UVU for a Saturday evening matchup.

BYU’S HISTORIC VICTORY. BYU last played No. 1 UCLA on Thursday, Aug. 31 in front of 5, 209 fans on South Field. For the first time in program history, the Cougars defeated a top-ranked team, besting the Bruins 3-1. BYU’s three goals on the night became the most the Bruins have allowed since 2021. The Cougars’ 2-0 halftime lead put UCLA in such a deficit for the first time since 2016. Former Bruin Ellie Walbruch recorded the game’s opening goal for BYU, along with an assist. Rachel McCarthy earned her first goal of the season, while Erin Bailey closed out the scoring for the Cougars with her third goal of the season. Petersen recorded a career-high two assists during the match. 

THE WOLVERINES. The UVU Wolverines last played up-state rival Utah on Wednesday, Aug. 30, falling to the Utes 5-0. UVU bolsters a record of 2-2-1, with wins against Houston Christian and Idaho State. As the top goal-scorer on her team, Faith Webber was named the Valley Women’s Health Student-Athlete of the Month for August. She scored the game-winning goals in both UVU wins, also posting a team-best 22 shots.

COUGARS VS. WOLVERINES. BYU and UVU have met eight times previously, with the Cougars leading the series 7-1. The Cougars and Wolverines last met in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2022, with BYU blanking UVU 3-0 to advance. The first and only BYU loss to UVU was also in the 2022 season, when the Wolverines beat the Cougars 4-2 on South Field.
