KANSAS CITY, Mo. — BYU forward Emma Calvert was selected to the 2023-24 Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Communicators announced on Tuesday morning.
"Emma is everything you want in a player both on and off the court," said head coach Amber Whiting. "She gives everything she has to the team when she's at practice and she is a star in the classroom as well. Emma is a huge part of our team now and she will continue to succeed in whatever she chooses to do after basketball as well."
Calvert started in 13 of her 33 appearances for the Cougars this season, averaging 7.4 points on 45 percent shooting from the field. The junior recorded 4.1 rebounds per game, 1.3 blocks, one assist and 0.6 steals for a BYU team that went 16-17 and made a fifth-consecutive trip to the postseason, excluding the COVID-19 canceled season.
Her 43 blocks on the season ranked in the top 90 in the country and fifth in the Big 12 while her 1.3 blocks per game were 103rd nationally and fourth in the conference.
Outside of basketball, Calvert is an Information Systems major and holds a 3.69 cumulative GPA in one of the most rigorous programs at BYU. This is the second-straight year in which Calvert has garnered Academic All-District honors and was named a WCC All-Academic honorable mention a season ago.
