LLEIDA, Spain — Former BYU forward Marina Mata has signed a professional contract to play for Cadi La Seu in the Liga Femenina Endesa.

"I am super excited for Marina and the opportunity for her to accomplish her dreams of playing professional basketball,” said head coach Amber Whiting. "Everyone on our team is sad to see her go, but playing professional basketball is what she has always dreamed about and we couldn't be more excited to see her take the next step in her basketball journey."

Marina Mata throws a pass for the Spanish National Team during a World Cup game.

The Barbastro native has signed a two-year contract to play in the Liga Femenina Endesa for Cadi La Seu. Mata played her freshman season in Provo before returning to her home country to suit up for Cadi La Sue as well as the U19 Spanish National Team.

Mata appeared in 13 games for the Cougars during the 2023-24 season, averaging 2.9 minutes per game. The freshman scored a career-high two points twice, in games against Wake Forest and Santa Clara in the WBIT.
