Marlboro, NJ – BYU gymnastics had 12 gymnasts named Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-Americans, the association announced Wednesday.
"All year we celebrate our gymnasts' athletic performances, so I love that we can celebrate these athlete's academic performances as well," said head gymnastics coach Guard Young. "They do a wonderful job representing BYU, both on the mat and in the classroom, and I am so proud of them."
To be named a WCGA Scholastic All-American, a gymnast must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for the 2023-24 academic year.
The Cougars combined for a 3.488 GPA, while the nine WCGA All-Americans earned a 3.5 or higher.
Overall, the association had 63 programs that averaged a 3.5 or higher GPA, with 1,174 individuals earning that mark, which is the most ever recorded (since 2008 when statistics were monitored). An impressive 296 student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA, another new record since 2008. The average GPA across all reported student-athletes was 3.6103, which is the 2nd highest recorded.
Melissa Earl, Olivia Matern and Eliza Millar-Crossman are now three-time recipients of the award, while Elease Rollins and Kylie Eaquinto are two-time recipients.
