BYU vs. UCLA

THE COUGARS. BYU played Long Beach State on Saturday evening, tying The Beach 1-1. This is BYU’s second tie in a row this season, both on the road. Addie Gardner scored BYU’s lone goal of the evening, assisted by Allie Fryer. With Fryer’s assist in game three, she has now had points in every game so far this season. With UCLA’s national ranking, Wednesday’s game will be the third top-25 matchup for the Cougars this season.

THE BRUINS. UCLA had a strong start to the 2024 season, going undefeated through the first four games, and securing four-straight shutouts. The Bruins faced a familiar face, Santa Clara, in their last match, taking home the 1-0 shutout. UCLA has scored eight total goals so far this season, tallying 71 shots and 34 shots on goal. Sofia Cook led her team with three shots on frame and the lone goal of the match against Santa Clara.

COUGARS VS. BRUINS. The Cougars and Bruins have met seven times previously, with the overall series tied at 3-3-1. The last time the two teams met was Aug. 31, 2023 when the Bruins came to South Field as the No. 1 team in the nation. After BYU beat UCLA 3-1 in that match, the Cougars received a No. 1 national ranking for the first time in program history. BYU’s current captain Ellie Walbruch, a UCLA transfer, scored in last year’s matchup. Starting midfielder MacKenzee Vance, is also a UCLA transfer on the current BYU roster.
