PROVO, Utah – Rising senior Adeline Wach won the Utah Women's Open in dominating fashion on Tuesday at Timpanogos Golf Club becoming the second straight Cougar golfer to win the title.
“I have worked hard this summer to just focus on the process of each shot that’s right in front of me,” Wach said. “When I let go of things that I cannot control, I find that I play my best.”
Wach started off strong on Monday when she went 5-under 67, leading by four over former teammate Kerstin Ngakuru. Wach eagled her first hole and then birdied twice more on the front nine. She collected three more birdies on her back nine to extend the lead.
Tuesday was another day of domination for the California native, when she recorded two birdies and an eagle on her front nine, followed up by three more birdies on her back nine. She finished the tournament 11-under 133 winning by six strokes over second place Ngakuru.
Ngakuru finished the tournament at 5-under 139, with scores of 71 and 68. She recorded 11 birdies including four straight during the opening round.
Whitney Banz tied for third after shooting a 3-under 141. She recorded a pair of birdies en route to a 71 on day followed by a bogey-free 70 on day two.
“This win is so important since I feel like I was able to test all of the work that I have put in this summer," added Wach. "Watching it pay off is such a big confidence builder going into this fall season."
