IRVING, Texas — BYU women’s soccer defender Avery Frischknecht received Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time, the league announced Wednesday.
BYU opened its Big 12 conference play against Arizona State, defeating the Sun Devils 1-0 on South Field. The Cougars now have three shutout victories on the season.
Frischknecht has played and started in all eight games so far this season, playing every minute on the pitch for a total of 720 minutes. In the ASU match, she helped BYU’s backline hold the Sun Devils to just two shots on goal. Frischknecht also scored her first collegiate goal in the Big 12 home opener, securing the victory for the Cougars.
