"The Big 12 Championships this year is definitely the conference championship of the country," said head coach Ed Eyestone. "There is Oklahoma State ranked number one in the country, BYU at two and Iowa State number four. If there were a College GameDay festivities for cross country, it would be in Waco, Texas, because it's going to be a phenomenal race and a nice preview for the national meet as well. I think my men are running well right now. I love the fact that our split between our first and our fifth in our last rate race was about five seconds. If we can keep that split close to that, and have my big guns up front running as strong as they can, then I think we can be very competitive. Oklahoma State is still the team to beat. They're the ones feeling the pressure, and we're just going to try to knock them off their pedestal."

The Cougars are entering the meet ranked second in the nation by the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll. The Cowboys have maintained the No. 1 spot through the regular season, while the Cyclones moved up to the No. 4 since week three.

"I’m grateful we get to be apart of such a competitive conference," said sophomore James Corrigan. "It allows us to do a litmus test on our fitness against some of the teams we’ll face at the national meet and it’s going to be a great grind."

Corrigan has played a pivotal role in the BYU program, most notably placing second overall at the 2023 Bill Dellinger Invite held Eugene, Oregon on Oct. 11. He has raced in the two national meets the Cougars have raced in this season, having taken a brief hiatus after competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Corrigan ran 8:36.67 in the first round of the 3000-meter steeplechase in Paris.

The Cougars will also be propelled by four-time All American Casey Clinger. The senior will see his final conference meet and first Big 12 meet having been sidelined last year due to injury. Clinger has earned two conference runner of the week honors and one USTFCCCA weekly honor for the 2024 season. He most recently took first overall at the Dellinger Invite.
