Cougs take on the Jayhawks and Wildcats

The Cougars are looking for their first road win of the season as they head to Kansas this weekend.

PROVO, Utah – Looking for its first road game win of the season, the BYU women’s soccer team heads to Kansas for games against the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas State Wildcats this weekend. 

BYU will face Kansas on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. MT before heading to Kansas State for a matchup on Monday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. MT. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. The Cougars played the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday, Oct. 4, falling 2-1.

THE COUGARS. BYU (5-5-3, 3-2-1 Big 12) last faced Arizona on Friday, Oct. 4, falling 2-1 to the Wildcats. Erin Bailey scored her second goal of the season for BYU’s lone goal of the match, while Allie Fryer tallied her second assist on the year. Despite falling short of a draw, the Cougars outshot the Wildcats 13-5, with nine shots on target. BYU forced Arizona’s goalkeeper to make eight saves on the night. With five shots in the matchup, Fryer has now recorded four consecutive games with five or more shots. 

THE JAYHAWKS. Arizona (5-5-3, 2-4 Big 12) last played Oklahoma State, falling to the Cowgirls 3-0 on its home turf. OSU outshot the Jayhawks 8-5, but Arizona held the edge on corner kicks with four compared to Oklahoma’s two. The Jayhawks have now lost back-to-back conference games, with a loss against No. 16 Colorado the week before. 

THE WILDCATS. Kansas State (3-7-3, 0-4-2 Big 12) last played Iowa State, tying the Cyclones 0-0. The game was evenly matched, with both teams tallying 18 shots. K-State had nine corner kicks to ISU’s three. Kansas State will face the Utah Utes before welcoming the Cougars to Buser Family Park. 

COUGARS VS. JAYHAWKS. The Cougars and Jayhawks have faced five times previously, with BYU leading the overall series 4-1. The last time the two teams met was September 19, 2019 when the Cougars beat then-No. 14 Kansas 2-0 at Rock Chalk Park. BYU has won its last three meetings with Kansas, dating back to 2007.

COUGARS VS. WILDCATS. The Cougars and Wildcats have faced two times previously, with BYU leading the series 2-0. The teams last played in 2023, when the Wildcats came to Provo and lost to then-No. 7 BYU 2-0 on South Field. BYU’s win against Kansas last year was its first Big 12 win at home in program history. Current BYU goal-scoring leader Allie Fryer scored in last year’s matchup.
