TEMPE, Ariz. — BYU men’s tennis senior Jack Barnett has entered the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point with a No. 123 national singles ranking. Barnett moved into the rankings after a 6-2 6-2 takedown of 27th-ranked Baylor’s No. 50 Tadeas Paroulek last week.
Barnett also hung tight with No. 4 Texas’s top-ranked player in the country Eliot Spizzirri last week before ultimately falling 2-6, 6-7 (5). The Noosa, Queensland (Australia) native held a few set points prior to the narrow tiebreaker loss in set two. The ranking makes him the fifth Cougar over the last 10 years to earn the accomplishment.
The team captain’s last four matches have been against top-70 players in this week’s rankings, including three opponents in the top-25. The ITA uses a computer algorithm to compile the rankings, with the formula weighing quality wins against other factors like losses and total matches played.
The spot among the top 125 adds yet another item to Barnett’s career accolades, which includes being named to four All-WCC teams since 2021. He also earned an at-large nomination to the ITA All-American Championships as a junior in 2022.
BYU has three regular season matches remaining in the 2024 season, with each on the road. The Cougars will take on No. 3 TCU this Thursday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m. MDT and UCF on Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m.
