Location: Notre Dame, IN / Loftus Sports Center
Dates: Saturday. Feb. 22
Live Results: Endurance Race Timing
"The Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday has been a meet where we have traditionally qualified for nationals in our DMR," said director of track and field Ed Eyestone. "All four of our athletes are coming off of either school record performances or personal/season best marks so I believe this may be one of our best men’s DMR groups ever. We need to focus and run as we did last week, but if we do that we will have a great result."
The distance medley relay is composed of four different distances: 1200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter and 1600-meter. This year's group is composed of Carter Cutting, Josh Taylor, Tyler Mathews and Lucas Bons. All four men have recorded top-10 program performances this season, including two school records.
Both Taylor and Mathews clocked school-record times in their respective events last weekend. Taylor, a 400m sprinter, gained the program record in 45.85 at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational Saturday afternoon. That same afternoon, Taylor was part of the men's 4x400m relay squad that earned another school record with a 3:04.67 outing. In Seattle, the true freshman Mathews took the 800-meter program record in 1:46.62 at the Husky Invitational.
"Two years ago we went to Notre Dame and it provided a school record and a nationals qualifier," said Taylor. "I believe both of those things will happen again this weekend. We have a strong distance team and I’m honored to join their forces.”
Cutting and Bons both have earned program top-10 times this season as well. The Husky Classic saw Cutting advance to No. 5 all-time in the mile with a 3:57.25 outing. Bons earned the No. 7 spot in the 5000m with a 13:32.05 finishing time.
The top 12 times in the NCAA on the TFFRS Indoor Performing List are all under 9:44.41 as of Feb. 22.
