PROVO, Utah — BYU baseball opens an eight-game road swing with a nonconference midweek matchup at Oral Roberts on Tuesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Cougars are coming off a series shootout with No. 23 West Virginia March 27-29 at Miller Park. BYU and WVU combined for a Big 12 season-high series total of 80 combined runs with the Cougars taking the first of three games (14-5, 6-20, 16-19) on Thursday.
BYU’s 36 runs over three games with the Mountaineers came on 37 hits via a triple, 12 doubles and 24 singles. The Cougar offense was led by outfielders Bryker Hurdsman and Luke Anderson as well as catcher Parker Goff. Each of the three posted an on-base percentage north of .600 for the series.
Hurdsman registered hits on eight of 13 plate appearances with six runs scored, three doubles, three RBI and 11 total bases while slugging .846. The junior from St. George, Utah now leads BYU on the season with a batting average of .425.
Anderson went 9-of-15 with five runs scored, two doubles and 8 RBI versus WVU. The junior slugger powered the Cougars to a series-opening 14-5 win on March 27 with a perfect 5-of-5 night at the plate en route to three runs scored and 3 RBI. Anderson leads BYU in 2025 in at bats (105), hits (37) and now co-leads alongside first baseman Cooper Vest with 30 RBI.
Goff continued his steadying presence behind the plate for the Cougar defense while batting 5-of-9 against the Mountaineers with five runs, a double and 2 RBI. Defensively, the junior catcher recorded 23 putouts, including a diving, bunt-robbing snag versus WVU on March 29.
Lefty Brett Hansen will make his first career collegiate start for BYU on Tuesday. After suffering injuries that limited him to one appearance over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Hansen will make his third appearance this season. In two innings pitched at Gonzaga and versus WVU, Hansen has struck out five batters while allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. The redshirt junior from Pleasanton, California made 12 appearances at Vanderbilt in 2022.
SERIES HISTORY. BYU and Oral Roberts meet for the 15th time on Tuesday. The Cougars lead the all-time series 8-6, including 5-2 in neutral meetings and 3-4 in Tulsa. The series’ last meeting came in an 8-3 BYU win at the 2019 Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. Oral Roberts swept BYU when the two last met in Tulsa in 2008.
KNOW THE FOE. ORU is led by 13-year head coach Ryan Folmar and was picked to repeat as Summit League Champion in 2025 after taking the conference regular season and tournament titles a season ago. The Golden Eagles finished 2024 with a 27-31-1 (13-15-1) record and a trip to the NCAA Norman Regional.
The Golden Eagles went 0-3 a week ago with a doubleheader loss to St. Thomas (2-3, 2-8) in Minneapolis on March 28 following a 2-11 loss to No. 10 Oklahoma on March 25.
ORU’s 2025 nonconference schedule has featured four teams currently ranked in the D1Baseball.com Top 25 with games versus the Sooners, No. 2 Arkansas, No. 17 Dallas Baptist and No. 24 Arizona State. The Golden Eagles have wins over the Patriots (7-6) and Sun Devils (8-7).
ORU’s bats are led by infielder Wailele Kane-Yates and outfielder Will Edmunson. Kane-Yates is batting .318 with 17 runs and 22 RBI. Edmunson holds a .300 average with 20 runs and 10 RBI.
Jack Hill will start Tuesday on the hill for ORU. Hill is 3-0 on the season with a 4.87 ERA and 16 strikeouts to 23 hits over 20.1 innings pitched.
