BYU picked up a midweek win against Fresno State on Monday afternoon. After taking a 4-1 lead, the Cougars found themselves in a 4-4 tie in the fourth before Lindy Milkowski and Maddie Udall-Woolley both homered in the sixth to help BYU pull away.

The Cougars tallied 10 hits in the contest to the Bulldogs' four, including four home runs. Hailey Morrow and Ilove'a Brittingham both went deep as well. Kate Dahle tossed a career-high nine strikeouts, going five and two thirds and walking just one. Kaysen Korth came in to close things out, posting fanning three in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Going 2-2 last week, BYU beat Utah Tech in a midweek before falling to UCF twice in a three-game set over the weekend. The Cougars were able to salvage the series with a game three win on Saturday, backed by another four home run barrage, including two from Brittingham, her fifth game this season with two long bombs.

Brittingham led BYU with a .571 batting average on the week, followed up by Keila Kamoku (.455), Milkowski (.417), Bre Townsend (.364), Aleia Agbayani (.333) and Udall-Woolley (.300), who combined for 10 of the Cougars' 11 homers across their four games.

Korth paced BYU in the circle, posting a 1.24 ERA with a 1-1 record on three appearances and 5.2 innings pitched. Gianna Mares, Jada Villegas and Kate Dahle each made appearances for the Cougars, with batters hitting just .167 against Mares in nine frames.

Continuing its home run hitting this week, BYU continues to lead the Big 12 in total home runs (65) and home runs per game (1.71), statistics they ranks No. 8 and No. 13 nationally in.

Brittingham sits in the top 10 nationally in RBI per game (No. 3, 1.50), home runs per game (No. 7, 0.45) and total home runs (No. 10, 17). She leads the league in batting average, home runs, home runs per game, RBI, RBI per game, slugging percentage and total bases.

BYU and Utah have played single games in back-to-back seasons, but haven't played three times in the same year since 2017. The Cougars and Utes met twice in 2021, once at Arizona State and once in Provo.

Utah (12-31, 4-11 Big 12)

  • BYU leads the all-time series, 35-23, but Utah has taken the last two matchups, both by two runs.
  • The Cougars are 18-7 against the Utes in Provo.
