The duo combined for five runs and six RBI as BYU earned a run-rule win over Utah in the series finale.

PROVO, Utah — BYU softball defeated Utah, 14-5 in six innings at Gail Miller Field on Saturday afternoon, doing so in walk-off fashion for the third game in a row to pick up the series sweep.

Highlighted by a nine-run third inning, the second frame in as many games plating nine, the Cougars (29-12, 11-7 Big 12) took down the Utes for their second series sweep in Big 12 play.

BYU out-hit Utah, 13 to seven, and also benefitted from four Ute errors. Kaysen Korth led the Cougar pitching staff with her five strikeouts.

Ilove'a Brittingham broke BYU's single-season freshman RBI record with a two-RBI single in the fifth, totaling 62 RBI on the year.

Player Highlights

The Utes scored in the first inning with a single to left field. BYU responded with a run of its own when Lindy Milkowski doubled to the left side, driving in Aleia Agbayani. The inning ended tied at one.

Utah broke things open in the top of the third with a three-run homer to grab a 4-1 lead, but the Cougars answered right back once more. Lily Owens laced a single to right, bringing home Miranda Mansfield, then came around to score herself on a wild pitch, cutting the gap to one.

Still in the third, Keila Kamoku launched a three-run homer over the left field fence, giving BYU its first lead of the day at 6-4. Maddie Udall-Woolley followed with a single up the middle and scored on Utah’s third error of the game, committed during Tristen Turlington’s at-bat, extending the Cougars’ lead to 7-4. With Mansfield and Turlington on base, Owens rocketed a shot to left field for a three-run homer, clearing the bases and capping off a massive nine-run inning for BYU at 10-4.

In the top of the fifth, the Utes capitalized on a Cougar error to score a run, but BYU held strong with the bases loaded to preserve its 10-5 lead.

Brittingham ripped a shot to left field in the bottom half of the frame, driving in two runs and setting a new BYU freshman record for single-season RBI. Her hit extended the Cougars’ lead to 12-5.

Turlington put the finishing touch on BYU’s win in the sixth, launching a two-run homer to left center that brought home Kamoku and sealed the run-rule 14-5 victory and series sweep for the Cougars.
