WACO, Texas — BYU softball fell in game three at Baylor, 8-5 at Getterman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

BOX SCORE

The Cougars (30-14, 12-9 Big 12) surrendered the series to the Bears in the loss, dropping the three-game set, 2-1. Both teams recorded 12 hits in the contest, with BYU committing one error, but Baylor four-run fifth proved to be the difference in the game.

Player Highlights

BYU opened up an early 2-0 in the first inning, Lily Owens singling to center field and moved to second on a Hailey Morrow sacrifice bunt. Then with two outs, Lindy Milkowski homered to left center on the first pitch she saw, putting the Cougars up two.

Aleia Agbayani doubled to open the second while both Owens and Morrow singled in the third, but BYU was unable to take advantage of its runners in scoring position.

Meanwhile, starting pitcher Jada Villegas kept Baylor quiet, allowing just a pair of Bear baserunners through the first three frame.

Bre Townsend and Miranda Mansfield both picked up base hits in the fourth, but the Cougars’ lead would remain at two.

Baylor tied things up in the bottom of the fourth, putting runners on the corners with one out on a walk and infield single before a single through the right side scored two. The Bears loaded the bases after a pitching change, but relief pitcher Kaysen Korth got BYU out of the jam with a fly out and groundout.

The Cougars retook the lead in the top of the fifth when Morrow doubled to left center on the first pitch of her at bat, coming in to score on an Ilove’a Brittingham single to center for a 3-2 advantage.

Baylor batted around the order in the home half of the frame, however, plating four runs on five hits and one BYU error to gain a 6-3 lead.

The Bears added two more in the sixth inning on a walk, single, wild pitch, sacrifice fly and ground out, going in front, 8-3.

Down to their final three outs, the Cougars got infield singles from both Mansfield and Owens before Morrow doubled to score Mansfield. Brittingham then picked up a sacrifice fly, scoring Owens, but a strikeout and groundout would halt the potential comeback at 8-5.
