OGDEN, Utah – Incoming freshman Kihei Akina and BYU alumni Daniel Summerhays, Peter Kuest and Cole Ponich are set to tee off in the opening round of the Korn Ferry Utah Championship on Thursday at the Ogden Golf and Country Club.

Akina and the three former Cougars are competing in the 72-hole Utah Championship as part of a 156-player field, July 31-August 3. This will be the Korn Ferry Tour’s 20th event out of 26 total events this season.

Akina and Ponich each received a sponsor's exemption into the Utah Championship. Akina tied for 49th in this event last year by carding a 13-under, 271. He competed in the Black Desert Championship last fall in his only PGA Tour start.

Ponich is looking to make the cut for the first time in this tournament. The 2024 Utah State Amateur and 2025 Provo Open champion will be participating in this event for the third time in his career.

2020 Utah Championship runner-up Summerhays and Kuest, the fifth-place finisher in 2022, will be joining Akina and Ponich in the field.

Follow along on Golf Channel from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. MST on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. MST on Sunday. Live scoring will be on the Korn Ferry Tour website
