WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — BYU kicker Will Ferrin was today named to the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Watch List by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. A semifinalist for the prestigious award last year, Ferrin is one of 30 student-athletes named to the 2025 preseason watch list.

The Lou Groza Award is named in honor of NFL Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954.

Ferrin, a 6-3, 175-pound senior from Kaysville, Utah, was recently named preseason All-America Second Team and preseason All-Big 12 First Team by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports. He was also one of 29 student-athletes selected to the 2025 All-Big 12 Preseason Football Team, chosen by media representatives who cover the league.

Following the 2024 football season, Ferrin was named Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Year and College Football Network Big 12 Kicker of the Year. He was also selected All-Big 12 First Team by the conference coaches, AP, College Football Network and Phil Steele.

Last year Ferrin set new BYU records for field goals in a season (24) and tied the school record for consecutive field goals made (16), while leading the nation with 21 field goals from 30 yards or longer, including connecting four times on attempts beyond 50 yards.

Overall, Ferrin led the Big 12 in field goals and was eighth nationally last year while also converted all 41 of his extra-point attempts to lead all conference kickers in scoring with 113 points (8.7 per game). The senior kicker also excels in the classroom with a 3.52 GPA in business management and was named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators in 2023 and 2024.

Semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will be announced on Nov. 18, with three finalists for the award being named on Nov. 25. The finalists will be honored at a gala awards banquet on Dec. 8 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The winner will then be announced on Dec 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.

In addition to the annual award, the Lou Groza Committee also recognizes “Stars of the Week” throughout the season. Following his 44-yard game-winning field goal to defeat rival Utah, 22-21, last season, Ferrin was named one of the Lou Groza Stars of the Week.
