PROVO, Utah – After its eighth-straight season-opening victory against No. 24 Minnesota, the BYU women’s soccer team heads to Cal Poly for a matchup on Mustang Memorial Field Monday evening.

THE COUGARS. BYU women’s soccer opened its season with a comeback victory against No. 24 Minnesota, 3-1. After a red card in the 30th minute, the Cougars played the remainder of the match with just 10 players on the field. Despite being down 1-0 at halftime, the Cougars fought back and three freshmen scored their first collegiate goals to take home the season-opening victory. Sophie Sivulich, Mia Goettsche and Mia Lopez tallied the goals, while Mika Krommenhoek and Lucy Kesler notched assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Paiton Collins saw her first minutes between the pipes and tallied four saves on the night.
THE MUSTANGS. Cal Poly opened its season with a matchup against San Diego at Torero Stadium. The Mustangs tied the Toreros 3-3, courtesy of a brace by senior captain Jessie Halladay. Cal Poly outshot San Diego 20-12, with eight shots on frame.
COUGARS VS. MUSTANGS. BYU and Cal Poly have met six times previously, with the Cougars leading the overall series 4-0-2. The last time the two teams met was back in 2015 when the match ended in a 1-1 draw in double overtime.
