No. 19 BYU takes on No. 4 UCLA in home opener

The Cougars take on the Bruins in a top-25 matchup on South Field Saturday evening.

PROVO, Utah – No. 19 BYU women’s soccer will face No. 4 UCLA on South Field Saturday evening for the regular-season home opener.

THE COUGARS. BYU women’s soccer played to a 2-2 draw at Cal Poly on Monday night, courtesy of a brace by junior Ellie Walbruch. After missing a penalty kick, Walbruch scored two goals in less than 60 seconds to end the first half, giving BYU a 2-1 lead. Cal Poly scored again in the second half, earning the tie. BYU had 14 corner kicks and 17 shots in Monday’s game. 

THE BRUINS. No. 4 UCLA last played against No. 7 Tennessee on Wednesday evening, falling to the Vols, 1-0. Despite losing, the Bruins outshot the Vols 17-1, including 13-0 in the second half. Tennessee had just one shot the whole game in the 25th minute, which was the lone goal of the night.

COUGARS VS. BRUINS. BYU and UCLA have met eight times previously, with UCLA leading the overall series 4-3-1. The teams last met in Los Angeles in 2024, when the Bruins beat the Cougars 1-0. The Cougars last played the Bruins on South Field in 2023, when BYU beat then-No. 1 UCLA, 3-1, to take the No. 1 ranking for the first time in program history.
