"Gans Creek gives us an opportunity to put our team up against some of the best teams in the nation." said head coach Ed Eyestone, "We also get a chance to preview the national championship course we will be running on in November. With a young team, I would love to see how we match up against the best teams while also giving out athletes a chance to run hard on the national course. We will need young athletes to step up and I am confident with team captains Davin Thompson and Luke Grundvig leading the way, we will do our best."

The Gans Creek Cross Country Course will also be used later this season for the 2025 NCAA National Championship held on Saturday November 22.

The Gans Creek Classic marks the Cougars’ start to the national meet section of the season schedule. BYU most recently took first at their home meet, the Autumn Classic sweeping the meet with a perfect score of 15.

All-American Davin Thompson is set to lead the Cougars after his first collegiate individual victory finishing first overall at the BYU Autumn Classic two weeks ago. He finished the 7000-meter course in 19:49.0.

Olympian James Corrigan is set to make his season debut after resting the first meet of the season due to the birth of his daughter. Corrigan most recently competed at the USA Track and Field Championships in the 3000-meter Steeplechase.

After the Gans Creek Classic, BYU takes two weeks off before heading to Madison, Wisconsin to compete at the 2025 Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday October 17.
