THE COUGARS. BYU women’s soccer (7-3-2, 2-2-1 Big 12) took home its first Big 12 road win of the season Monday evening, defeating Oklahoma State 4-1. In Monday’s matchup, sophomore Lucy Kesler scored her first career brace, while Ellie Walbruch had a season-high six shots and added her fifth goal of the year. Junior Mattyn Summers-Oviatt, who played defense for the Cougars last year, scored her first goal as a Cougar against the Cowgirls. Emma Hamberlin, Presley Freeman and Mia Goettsche each tallied their second assists of the year.
THE BEARS. No. 14 Baylor (9-1-2, 4-1 Big 12) last played Colorado at Betty Lou Mays Field Sunday afternoon, defeating the Buffaloes 2-1. The Bears are on a four-game win streak, taking down then-No. 14 Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State before beating Colorado earlier this week. Baylor’s Aryanna Jimison tallied a brace on the night, securing the win for the Bears.
COUGARS VS. BEARS. BYU and Baylor have faced four times previously, with the Cougars leading the overall series 2-1-1. The Bears played the Cougars on South Field last season, battling to a 3-3 draw. After going up 1-0 at the half, Baylor scored three goals early in the second half to take the 3-1 lead. A late brace by BYU’s Allie Fryer tied the game up.
